Idea: Personal Display Screen [PDS]

RH:
1. Computer-based devices are everywhere and there are 2 inflexible MUSTs for every of these devices. The first is an Input system or interface in which our human fingers or voice, input commands or texts, etc. The second interface is the Screen with which we see our input texts, the results of our inputs and commands -- such as images and videos, etc.

2. Since the first interface will eventually progress to Voice Input, which is the easiest and best, no doubt this will eventually progress to a point where we simply say our commands and texts and all these will be input into the device.

3. The second interface requires a screen display of some sort. Currently, we look at a computer monitor, a tv screen and also a screen on such as cellphones, game console, etc. Why not integrate all these different screens into a Personal Display Screen [PDS] that we then use for watching tv, as a computer monitor, ebook reader and even replacing our cellphone screen, etc?

4. A Personal Display Screen will likely be Spectacles, whether part of our eyesight corrective lenses or not. In other words, everybody will wear what looks like spectacles, except that this spectacles will incorporate a Personal Display Screen. When the PDS is not on or activated, it is exactly like ordinary spectacles and will correct eyesight for those shortsighted or longsighted, etc. When on or activated, text and images appear on these PDS and because these PDS are right in front of our eyes, these images can appear as large as the User chooses -- the effect can be like watching a huge wall-size tv, even in 3D -- possible with just a minor modification of current 3D technology.

5. Thus, this PDS will eliminate all screens thus saving space and costs. One screen for all computer-based devices, from cellphone to computer monitors to tv screens, and of course, video game consoles, handheld game devices, ebook readers and even new classes of information services, etc. This will shrink devices to tiny pocket-sized devices so we can literally carry a tv cum cellphone cum pc cum ebook reader cum video game player, etc, all in one device, since current devices are often limited by a screen that must be big enough to be readable or watchable.

6. Thus, on a metro train, when you get a cellphone call, your 'spectacles' display the name and number of the caller right in front of your eyes. Maybe, even the video image. At a size of image you can select. Your voice is captured by the left and right microphones in the frames of your spectacles while your caller's voice is through the tiny speakers also built into the spectacle frames, possibly also heard through bone conduction. Then, after the call is terminated, you resume reading your ebook or resume watching 'live' tv or video. When you reach your office desk and computer, there is no monitor but when you switch on your small box-like pc, your pc transmits images to your spectacles so you work exactly like looking at a monitor display. Your PDS will be 'paired' with its pc and other devices like current Bluetooth pairing. When collaborative work is needed, simply using the same pairing password lets many sharers 'look' at the same screen. Then, when you reach home and switch on your cable tv box [there is no tv set], again, it transmits tv images to your spectacles in whichever direction you face or sit, even to whichever room you are in. Should you feel like playing Nintendo or World of Warcraft, again, you simply switch on the console and the images are transmitted right in front of your eyeballs so the images can be as big or whatever size you choose. If someone wants to talk to you, you simply say "PDS Clear" [or touch a switch on your spectacles] and your spectacles instantly becomes clear as glass so you can see the person you talk to and she can see your eyes. In a United Nations General Assembly setting, for example, the speaker/presenter need no public address or loud speaker system to be heard. Every delegate hears him through his own 'spectacles' which allows for simultaneous translations. When the presenter wants to show a slide or video clip, he simply presses his computer remote and every delegate sees the same slide or video clip on his own PDS. At another press of the presenter's computer remote, all the PDS clear so that all the delegates can resume seeing the presenter. If a camera is also built into the spectacles, you simply say, "Photo mode" and your PDS will show you the camera's point of view. Then you say, "Zoom in...stop" to zoom in to the size you want and then "Capture" to take the photo. Or "Video mode, start" to start video capture and "Zoom in...stop [pause] zoom out...stop" to zoom in or out to the size you want and "End recording" to end recording. It is also possible to transmit to a certain defined radius to reach everybody within that radius. For example, to show a warning in every PDS within that radius to warn of a fire and to ask for an orderly evacuation of the fire area. This warning and instruction can also be heard through the spectacles. In school, it will be pretty hard for a student to sleep when the teacher can control what he sees and hears.

7. Many devices currently require a screen since this is a primary interface. By having just 1, we can shrink and even combine all appliances, simplify space and placements of tv, etc, and allow us to watch tv anytime anywhere and even connect to the internet anytime anywhere without need for clumsy [current] big appliances. Truly handsfree [if voice commands are good enough] and every imaginable kind of device from tv to computer to cellphone all shrunk into a tiny device we put in our pocket.

8. There will be many new devices made possible by this PDS, from ebook readers to portable video devices to new information systems and services, even ads -- if and when the User chooses. We will all save time or never waste time, since we can even read when hanging on a metro train strap, or watch tv in a bus or surf the internet in a cafe while waiting for our food.

9. Now, all you have to do is find funding, engineers, agree on the standards [not difficult since all formats are easily convertible, many in realtime if your computers at source are big and fast enough], and build it.
